Exodus 19
4Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles' wings, and brought you unto myself.
5Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:
6And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.
7And Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and laid before their faces all these words which the LORD commanded him.
8And all the people answered together, and said, All that the LORD hath spoken we will do. And Moses returned the words of the people unto the LORD.
9And the LORD said unto Moses, Lo, I come unto thee in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with thee, and believe thee for ever. And Moses told the words of the people unto the LORD.
10And the LORD said unto Moses, Go unto the people, and sanctify them to day and to morrow, and let them wash their clothes,
11And be ready against the third day: for the third day the LORD will come down in the sight of all the people upon mount Sinai.

I am going to try to make this as simple as I can and still getting the understanding through.
The pattern that is shown here is setting up the fulfillment of The LORD saying that He would raise them up a Prophet like Moses. Deuteronomy 18
This is also the Moses pattern that is shown in Revelation 12.

This also includes the description of Isaiah 8 and 34 where we see the eagles and all the birds of prey gathered at the dead carcass. It is the same carcase that is mention by the Lord in Matthew 24.

27For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
28For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together.
29Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
30And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
31And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

This is the difference between the devouring of the dead body and raising it back to life. Either way it is dead. The sign is the same as is reported in Isaiah 8: 18Behold, I and the children whom the LORD hath given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from the LORD of hosts, which dwelleth in mount Zion.
19And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead?

As it is the same as is reported in Revelation 14: 1And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father's name written in their foreheads.

The darkness is described by the Lord in Matthew 24 as it is also written in Isaiah 8:
16Bind up the testimony, seal the law among my disciples.
17And I will wait upon the LORD, that hideth his face from the house of Jacob, and I will look for him.
18Behold, I and the children whom the LORD hath given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from the LORD of hosts, which dwelleth in mount Zion.
19And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead?
20To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.
21And they shall pass through it, hardly bestead and hungry: and it shall come to pass, that when they shall be hungry, they shall fret themselves, and curse their king and their God, and look upward.
22And they shall look unto the earth; and behold trouble and darkness, dimness of anguish; and they shall be driven to darkness.

The flood that comes is also mentioned in both Isaiah 8 and Revelation 12. When you read this you will see the proper sequence of the events.
The people refusing the waters of Shiloh, the still waters of the LORD’s guidance; the refusal leading to revolt; revolt brings in the serpent’s flood, the Assyrian’s overflowing; the darkness of death; the eagles gather around the dead carcass; those still refusing the deliverance of being raised up on the eagle’s wings are therefore devoured and destroyed by the other birds of prey.

That is the truth of the meaning. This is all so very plainly explained in Hebrews 12 & 13.
